How we make a difference.

Making a difference is more than providing an exceptional service to our clients and customers.

  • Diversity and inclusion

We foster a culture that respects and values individuals and encourages differences that spark innovation, leadership and exceptional performance. We are a champion of inclusive recruitment, training and development, and have put in place initiatives that ensure our workforce is diverse and reflects the communities we work in.

In the past year we have embarked on an ambitious strategy to improve diversity and inclusion, so that all colleagues feel respected, valued and included. We are committed to greater representation of minority ethnic, LGBTQ+ and disabled colleagues in senior roles and across our business, ensuring we better reflect the communities we serve.

We also launched six employee-led networking groups: MaxWomen, MaxPride, MaxFaith, MaxAbility, MaxCultural, and MaxCarers.

  • Empowering local partners

We operate globally but deliver locally, and we believe our success is driven by working in partnership. That’s why we work with hundreds of local partners, including voluntary sector organisations, local government and education providers, to deliver our programmes in communities across the UK. By creating partnership networks, funding projects operated by local charities and co-locating our delivery sites, we collaborate to foster innovation and ensure our service users can access the support they need.

  • Carbon positive by 2030

We have published our roadmap to become a carbon positive business by 2030, 20 years ahead of the UK government net zero carbon target. By reducing energy-use both internally and throughout our supply chain, electrifying our vehicle fleet, eliminating single-use plastics across our estate and offsetting carbon usage, we have developed a robust plan for change.

  • Colleague volunteering

Colleagues in every division of our business are now offered at least one day of paid volunteering leave, with dedicated teams sourcing opportunities and helping colleagues to make their plans a reality. It’s one of the reasons our colleagues are so passionate about their local communities devoting hundreds of hours of volunteering for great causes.

  • Procurement practices

We work with thousands of suppliers and delivery partners and recognise the impact our policies and practices can have on businesses, charities and community groups. From embedding the payment of the Real Living Wage in our contracts, to prompt payment and opening new opportunities for small and medium size businesses to work with us through an ethical procurement policy, our updated approach has been designed to ensure consistency and fairness.

  • Charitable giving

Through our sole charity of choice, Maximus Foundation UK, we make grants to community groups and charities across the UK. Our colleagues nominate charities and causes close to their hearts for grant donations. To date, the Foundation has supported more than 200 community groups and charities to continue their essential work across the country.
